About Us

History:

The Greenville County Recreation District (GCRD) is a special purpose district created by the South Carolina General Assembly in 1968 to provide parks and recreation for the citizens of Greenville County. Currently the district includes all unincorporated areas of Greenville County as well as the municipalities of Fountain Inn and Travelers Rest.

Commission & Staff:

GCRD is governed by an independent 7 member commission. GCRD employs 87 full time staff and over 106 part time staff.

Parks & Facilities Overview:

GCRD manages over 46 parks and facilities throughout Greenville County including 7 community centers, a waterpark, ice rink, inline rink, and a 10 mile rail-trail greenway. Construction is underway to build an additional waterpark at Northside Park, add waterpark features at Lakeside Park, and a residential camp facility for our therapeutic recreation programs at Pleasant Ridge Park

Budget & Funding:

GCRD’s annual operating budget is approximately $10 million. Roughly half of our annual operating revenue is generated through property taxes and the other half comes from self generated revenues including program fees, rental fees, sponsorships, and grants.
