If you are looking for a fun and meaningful way to spend a week or more of your time this summer, volunteering as a cabin counselor with Camp Spearhead may be just the opportunity you are looking for.  We offer 8 weeks of summer camp for youth and adults with special needs and volunteers are critical to the success of Camp.  We rely on our volunteers to assist our campers, ensuring they get the most from their experiences.  The work is not always easy but it is always rewarding.  Volunteers must be 18 years or older to help with Camp Spearhead.

What will I do as a volunteer cabin counselor at Camp Spearhead?

• You will live in a cabin with a group of campers and staff serving as a leader, supervisor, role model and caregiver.
• You will help campers have a safe, happy, and empowering camp experience.
• You will provide direct assistance to campers as they navigate the activities and daily living at Camp.
• You will comfort campers if they are homesick, celebrate with them when they have accomplished something grand, applaud them at talent night, and dance with them for hours at the dance party.
• You will be their buddy, their confidant, their caregiver, their protector, and their friend.
• You will also experience first hand the overwhelming joy of spending time with campers who will love and appreciate you just for being there for them.

Volunteering as a cabin counselor at Camp Spearhead can be life changing; however, it is hard work.  Some of our campers need one-on-one assistance 24/7, some need help with personal hygiene, some will not be able to communicate with you verbally, and some may require a wheelchair.  One thing all of our campers share in common is an overwhelming love of being at Camp Spearhead.  They look forward to it all year long.  Our campers also share a remarkable ability to overcome challenges that would seem insurmountable to most people.  Although serving as a volunteer cabin counselor is hard work, it is an experience that will open your heart, inspire you,  and possibly change your life.  Most of our staff and volunteers come to Camp Spearhead because they feel that they have something to give.  All of our staff and volunteers leave Camp at the end of the summer realizing that our campers gave them more than they could ever give our campers.
