Jim Greene: Tennis Pro for Greenville Rec

Jim first picked up the racquet at age 8, since then tennis has been a lifelong passion. He was once told at a young age follow your passions and he has done just that for the past 16 years as a teaching pro. Jim was taught by Dennis Van der Meer the first Professional player to standardize teaching progressions to develop consistent stroke output for all types of shots. Van der Meer has undoubtedly instructed more players and coaches than anyone in the game. The method he conceived is taught in over 115 countries worldwide by more than 14,000 members. Jim has been a certified teaching Professional since 1996.

Jim has also worked under the tutelage of Paul Scarpa, Mens Head Coach at Furman University (the winningest coach in NCAA history). Serving as Assistant to the Director at Furman Tennis Camps, Greenville S.C.

Throughout his career as Head Coach or Head Pro, Jim strives to provide quality and retainable instruction for all skill levels. Passing along his knowledge for the game in an eloquent and encouraging manner promoting “process over outcome”. This teaching style challenges his players to grow and learn each time they step onto the court. Jim has also coached at the High School and NJCAA/NCAA collegiate levels including visits at the national level. Jim played at north Greenville Junior College and was on the the practice squad at the University of Hawaii.

After completing a six year stint in the U.S. Navy and traveling the globe, Jim returned to his native Carolina to raise a family. Attesting “I’ve lived and seen many beautiful places and met many people around the world but- the best things in life can be found in your own back yard.  Jim lives near Tryon N.C. with his loving wife Rhett and three sons, Jay, Jonathon and Alex.
