History of Westside Park

The Greenville County Recreation District acquired this site on West Blue Ridge Drive in 1969 and developed it with a combination of federal and local funding. It was one of the first two parks in the District and featured South Carolina’s only public 50 meter swimming pool complete with diving well. The pool was enclosed in 1992 and is still the only 50 meter public swimming facility in the State. Today the pool is home to Team Greenville, a 300 member plus competitive swim team sanctioned by USA Swimming. Every summer the facility hosts the Swim Association Invitation League (SAIL) Championship and Classic meets. SAIL is one of the largest youth based volunteer organizations in the United States. Westside’s outdoor campus offers athletic fields, tennis courts, playground, and picnic shelters.
