Team Greenville is a year-round competitive swim team and swim school program.  The program is operated by the Greenville County Recreation District serving the residents of Greenville County and the Upstate.  Team Greenville provides fun, safe, and exciting opportunities for swimmers of all ages, skill, and commitment levels.  At Team Greenville, swimmers have fun developing swimming skills and improving their physical fitness.  Team Greenville swimmers also build self confidence while learning important life skills.  Team Greenville provides a strong team and social environment.

Team Greenville’s mission is to provide a full-service, sustainable swim program for the residents of Greenville County and the Upstate. The program offers the opportunity for each individual to reach his or her full potential as a swimmer and as a person. By stressing the importance of fun, fitness, and the pursuit of excellence, Team Greenville provides opportunities for enhanced quality of life, improved health, and development of the dedication, character, and self-esteem necessary to become a productive member of society. This mission is achieved while providing social opportunities to develop friendships among people of all cultural, racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.

The outstanding Team Greenville coaching staff combines nearly 100 years of successful swim coaching at every level from coaching beginning swimmers up to and including the Olympics!  Team Greenville coaches are swimming experts with great passion for the sport of swimming and a calling to coach youngsters in our sport.  We have developed a successful age group coaching progression where kids learn the most current “cutting edge” techniques in a fun, diverse, safe and supportive atmosphere.  Team Greenville helps swimmers to develop a lifelong passion for swimming and for physical fitness.  Swimmers are always encouraged to enjoy the sport, have fun, and do their best.  Team Greenville swimmers often enjoy long and successful swimming careers.  Team Greenville offers an elite level senior program that supplies an environment designed to achieve success at the top levels of regional and national swimming competition.  Many Team Greenville senior swimmers go on to swim successfully and earn scholarships at the NCAA level.


Scott Bonine
Head Coach

Scott Bonine has been a member of the staff since May 2001 and is an ASCA Level 4 coach. Bonine is the Head Coach/Program Manager of Team Greenville and the primary coach for the Senior Division. He has over 30 years of coaching experience on all levels including stints as an assistant at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, and head coaching positions in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Coach Bonine has worked with athletes that competed in the Atlanta and Sydney Olympic Games, several U.S. Olympic Trials qualifiers, and various swimmers that scored at the NCAA Championships, USA Nationals and Junior Nationals. His swimmers have also achieved world and national top sixteen rankings. Bonine, a native of Minnesota, received his undergraduate degree from Winona State University (MN) and pursued graduate studies in Recreation Administration at the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse.

Since his arrival in Greenville, Coach Scott has had numerous USA Swimming Academic All-Americans and National High School All Americans.  He has had four swimmers qualify for the United States Swimming National Championships and two achieve Olympic Trial qualifying standards. Many of his swimmers have gone on to swim in NCAA Division I as scholarship athletes.  Bonine’s swimmers have scored at the US Nationals, Junior Nationals, and US Open.  Swimmers from the Team Greenville senior program are consistently among the state’s best and many have been members of the South Carolina Zone Team.

Coach Scott has served as Senior Chair and Coaches Representative for SC Swimming Board of Directors. He was recognized as the South Carolina Coach of the Year in 2003.


Roy Dessloch

Roy Dessloch has been with Team Greenville with since September 1991 and has over 35 years of coaching experience at all levels. Primary coach of the Yellow group (Coach Roy is the “godfather” of Eight and Under swimming), he also works extensively with the Team Greenville Champion Swim School and Home School programs. Coach Roy also handles team communications and numerous other administrative duties. He assists on all levels of the program as needed.

Coach Roy served as head coach of what is now Team Greenville from September 1991 until October 2004. He has competed and coached on the age group, high school, collegiate, and Masters levels. His coaching experience includes head coaching stints at Hagerstown YMCA (MD), Mountaineer Swim Club (WV), and Anderson Swim Club (SC) producing numerous national top sixteen swimmers in addition to Zone, YMCA, and Junior National qualifiers. Dessloch is a native of Pennsylvania, a graduate of Wabash College, and obtained his masters at West Virginia University.  He has served as Head Zone Team Coach, Secretary, Age Group Chair, Coaches Representative for South Carolina Swimming, and currently serves as Technical Planning Chair.  He is also the Records Chairman for South Carolina Masters Swimming.
